Dentra Viewer
Viewer plugins
Extra tools made by other developers, tested by us before they appear in the catalogue.
Where to find them
When you have models on the scene, the “Plugins” pill appears in Dentra Viewer. You also find it when you open one of your links with the eye, from the “Your links” list. People who receive your links don't see it.
Press “Plugins” to open the catalogue: for each plugin you see the name, what it does, who wrote it and the version. The number next to the pill tells you how many plugins you have turned on.
Turning on a plugin
- 1
Flip the switch
In the catalogue, next to the plugin, turn on the switch.
- 2
Read what it asks for
Before it turns on, the plugin tells you “To work it asks for:” and, for each permission, why it needs it.
- 3
Confirm
Press “Turn on”. If you change your mind, “Cancel”.
| The plugin can ask for | What it means |
|---|---|
| “Moving the view” | Rotating and zooming the scene. |
| “Reading the open models” | Reading the files of your models, for example to measure or check them. |
| “Changing the open models (hide, colour, transparency)” | Changing how the models look on the scene. |
| “Knowing where you click on the model” | Receiving the point you click, for measurements or marks. |
| “Drawing in the scene” | Adding shapes and marks over the models. |
| “Buttons in the bar” | Putting its own buttons under the “Plugins” pill. |
| “Copying to the clipboard” | Copying a text or a result, to paste elsewhere. |
| “Saving files on your computer” | Letting you download a file it has prepared. |
| “Internet” | Connecting to the internet. On the website a plugin with internet can't read your models. |
| “The camera”, “The microphone” | The Viewer opens them and the browser asks for permission on Dentra's behalf; the plugin only receives the images or the audio. |
Turning a plugin on applies to the browser you do it in: on another computer, or in another browser, the plugin has to be turned on again.
Desktop-only plugins
Some plugins are made only for the desktop app: on the website you see them in the catalogue marked “Desktop app only” and without a switch. For now, the desktop app doesn't have the plugins panel.
Plugins that read the models and also use the internet, meaning the ones that send your scans to an external service, are always desktop-only. Whoever writes them has to declare who the scans go to and why: you can read it on the plugin's page, under Plugins.
With these plugins your scans leave your computer: you need a patient data processing agreement with whoever receives them. Only turn them on if you have that agreement.
Turning a plugin off
Every plugin that's on works in its own panel over the scene. With the arrow you minimise it and it stays on. To turn it off press the X in the panel (“Turn the plugin off”), or switch it off in the catalogue. If the plugin uses the camera or the microphone, the panel also shows “Stop the camera” and “Stop the microphone”.
Updates and withdrawn plugins
When its author publishes a new version, the plugin updates by itself. If the new version asks for a permission you had not accepted, though, the plugin stops: in its panel you read “This plugin now also asks for:” with the new permissions and why it needs them. It starts again only if you press “Turn back on”; with “Turn the plugin off” it stays off.
If we remove a plugin from the catalogue, for example because of a security problem, the Viewer turns it off and tells you once that it is no longer available.
For plugin authors
If you're a developer and want to write a plugin, the guide is in the Developer area. From the catalogue you can also get there with “Write a plugin yourself”.
